Originally opened in 1872 as part of the line from Istanbul to İzmit, it was later expanded by the Turkish State Railways and served the Haydarpaşa-Gebze suburban line from 1969 to 2013. Closed during the Marmaray project, it was rebuilt and reopened in 2019, and now serves the Marmaray commuter rail system.
