Editor's Note
The lighthouse has no known date or inscription. In 1840 Alexander Dioni visited it and searched the tower for an inscription, finding a faint inscribed plaque on which the letters IUBH could be read. It is likely a stone taken from older buildings and reused in the tower's construction. The tower began shining its light every night in 1837-1838; in the 1920s it was operated by a French company, lit at first by a pressure lamp, then by acetylene, and today by electricity.
