Editor's Note
Ragıp Pasha was the chamberlain (mabeyinci) of the palace during the reign of Abdülhamid II, while his brother Arif Sarıca was the court physician. Arif Sarıca was also the owner of the five-storey stone building in Moda. The family's granddaughter is the famous pianist Ayşegül Sarıca. The mansion was built in 1906 as a four-storey masonry structure by the architect A. Jasmund. Gold leaf was used on its ceilings, and a tower was built on the sea-facing side.
