Editor's Note
On the southern slopes of the Baruthane stream there are four stone powder magazines built in 1297 AH (1881). Arranged at intervals along the stream, they were built so as not to be visible from the E-5 highway or from the Sea of Marmara. Fully sheltered in military terms, the structures are also very sound architecturally. As these buildings were commissioned by the reigning sultan, Abdülhamid II, they are known by the name "Abdülhamid Magazines."
