Editor's Note

Built in 1778 by Sultan Abdülhamid I as a foundation (waqf) school, the building underwent a thorough restoration in 1915 by the architect Kemalettin Bey, in keeping with the era's prevailing style, the First National Architecture Movement. Owned by the pious foundations for many years, the building later became Bostancı Primary School. Since 1974 it has served as a public education center.
