Editor's Note
Built on a plot of about 13 dönüms in Bostancı, this stone building in the German architectural style, with two full storeys above the basement and a steep roof, was commissioned by Edouard Huguenin. When Huguenin acquired the land for the house he built in Bostancı, it held the ruined building of a 350-year-old monastery belonging to Jesuit monks, of which only a few bedrooms remained. The monks had left and the monastery's activity had ceased. The owner of the building and the land was an Armenian. Huguenin bought the land and the ruined monastery from this Armenian and built his own house in 1903.
