Editor's Note
Founded in 1831, it gained a new five-storey building in 1875 to house around 400 students from all corners of the world. In 1916 the school building was allotted to the Navy (Bahriye). In 1919 it was returned to the Patriarchate to serve as an orphanage for girls and a vocational school. During the 1923 population exchange it was used to shelter orphans arriving from Anatolia. In 1926 it was closed by the Ministry of National Education.
