Editor's Note
Built in the 1870s as the summer house of Sofronios, Patriarch of Alexandria, the building served as Büyükada Primary School (the 'Stone School,' Taş Mektep) between 1922 and 1967. A restoration begun by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality was completed on 18 June 2023. The building has been converted to serve as an exhibition hall, library, bookshop, study space, workshop, café, and concert and events venue.
