Editor's Note
The boathouse of Dolmabahçe Palace stood beside the Dolmabahçe Mosque. Its lower floor was reserved for the caïques and its upper floor for the boatmen (oarsmen). The boathouse consisted of two parts: the Imperial Privy (Mâbeyn-i Hümâyûn) Boathouse and the Tebdil-i Hümâyûn Boathouse. In some records the Mâbeyn Boathouse is found referred to as the 'Imperial Sultanate Boathouse.' The structure, no longer standing, still existed in the early years of the Republic and was used as a tobacco warehouse after 1926.
