Editor's Note
Built in 1914, the building was designed by the architect Giulio Mongeri. Used for many years as a cinema under various names, it became a theatre stage in the 1970s when the Istanbul State Theatre moved in. In 2007 it was closed to be converted into a hotel and shopping centre. It was the first building in Turkey constructed to serve as a cinema.
