Designed and built in 1911 by the engineer S. Saboureaux, the Parcel Post Office was conceived to meet the need for a passenger hall serving travellers arriving at Karaköy Harbour. Over time it took on different functions to suit Istanbul's changing needs: it served as a Naval Hospital in 1934, and after 1957 as the PTT Parcel Post Office.
