Built in 1955, the theatre was designed by the architect Perran Doğancı. In 2012, on the grounds that it carried an earthquake risk, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality decided to demolish and rebuild it. From 1955 until the day it was torn down, stars of Turkish theatre such as Muammer Karaca, Muhsin Ertuğrul, Adile Naşit, Münir Özkul, Gülriz Sururi, Renan Fosforoğlu, Selim Naşit Özcan, Yıldız Kenter, Müşfik Kenter, Şükran Güngör, Kâmran Yüce, Ali Poyrazoğlu, Lale Oraloğlu and Genco Erkal performed on this stage.
