Editor's Note
As the Kadıköy Pier adjoining the Karaköy Bridge had grown very old, a new one was built in 1936 to the design of engineer Galib Alnar by A.K.A.Y. (the administration of the Princes' Islands, Anatolian Side and Yalova line). In addition to its technical and staff functions, the pier housed a guest room, a terraced gazino, a newspaper stand and a barber's shop. In 1958 it was dismantled for repair and taken to the Golden Horn (Haliç) Shipyard; after being restored, it was reinstalled in front of the Port Administration on the quay, where today's Karaköy pier stands, in order to ease congestion at the bridge.
