Editor's Note
In 1908, under the patronage of Sultan Mehmed V Reşad, the Committee of Union and Progress built a wooden pavilion where goods were sold for the benefit of the Committee. The structure was later used by the Red Crescent (Hilal-i Ahmer) to hold charity fairs. According to Fikret Adil, Natanson, a man of Bulgarian origin who settled in Istanbul in 1910 or 1911, enlarged the pavilion he acquired from the Red Crescent, named it the Garden Bar, and turned it into an entertainment venue. After it burned down in 1914, a summer garden was first established here, and later a larger building was commissioned in its place from the engineer Kristidis.
