Editor's Note

Currently used as an office building by the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, the building at 28 Cağaloğlu-Babıali Street traces its history back to 1889. The plot it stands on was purchased on 29 January 1889 by decree of Abdülhamid II, in order to build the Civil Service Pension Fund (Mülkiye Tekaüd Sandığı) building. The land, acquired on behalf of the Treasury, had previously belonged to the heirs of Ziver Paşa (1861), Sheikh of the Haram al-Sharif.
