Editor's Note
One of the area's first buildings, Palazzo Corpi was designed in 1873 by the Italian architect Giacomo Leoni as a residence for Ignazio Corpi, one of the leading shipowners of the time; it faces Meşrutiyet Avenue in Tepebaşı. Shortly after the building was completed and its owner Ignazio Corpi had died, his nephews leased it to the American Embassy. It was used as the American Consulate between 1883 and 2003.
