Editor's Note
After the Dominican friars abandoned the Arap Mosque, the new church building they moved into suffered fires and fell into ruin several times, so they finally turned to Gaspare Fossati, the architect who had carried out the restoration of Hagia Sophia. In 1843 the present church building was completed by G. Fossati and dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Paul. The church was built in the Neoclassical style. The building is 35 metres long, 8-10 metres wide and 14 metres high, and the wall behind its High Altar was built using the ruined remains of the Genoese Galata Walls.
