Editor's Note
Pembe Konak (the Pink Mansion) was a historic mansion in the Yanıksaraylar area of Istanbul's old Cağaloğlu quarter. Originally known as the "Red Mansion," it came to be called the "Pink Mansion" after its paint faded. From 1908 it served as the headquarters of the Committee of Union and Progress, and between 1908 and 1918 the Ottoman Empire was effectively governed from here. It housed the Cumhuriyet newspaper from 1924 to 2005, was demolished in 2019 after restoration came too late, and its site is now used as a car park.
