Editor's Note
Designed by Gaspare Fossati, the building's construction date is unknown, although it is understood to have been built before 1845. The location of the structure, which has not survived, was determined from an undated drawing made by G. Fossati. It is understood to have stood in front of the New Mosque in Eminönü, near the Limon (Lemon) Pier from which it took its name; the guardhouse is thought to have been demolished a while later when, during the construction of the Galata Bridge, it fell on the line of one of the bridge's piers.
