Editor's Note

The Old Yağkapanı Mescidi stands on the shore of the Golden Horn within Perşembepazarı. This raised mosque was built by Makbul (Maktul) İbrâhim Paşa (d. 942/1536). In its old photographs the mosque, with vaulted shop units beneath it, appears as a masonry building constructed in courses of stone and brick, a classical-style structure with a wooden minaret. It was renovated into its present form in the early 20th century.
