Editor's Note
İbnülemin was born in the Mühürdar Emin Paşa Mansion in Mercan - named after his father, who had a great influence in tying him to classical culture - and spent his life there apart from a brief interval. With both the books inherited from his father and those he himself collected, along with calligraphic plaques and precious objects, the mansion looked almost like a museum. Having survived two fires, the mansion suffered yet another disaster during the Armistice period and was occupied by French and British soldiers in 1919. In a sense, the mansion shared the same fate as Turkey itself.
