Editor's Note
This fountain was built in AH 1185 / AD 1771 by Hacı Hüseyin Ağa, steward of the acting grand vizier Melek Mehemmed Pasha, a benefactor and doer of good deeds. After it was destroyed in the Keresteciler fire of AH 1306 / AD 1888, the merchant Samakovlu Hacı Ali Efendi renewed it through his own efforts - both as his own good work and as a charitable merit on behalf of the late Hacı İsmail Ağa - thereby reviving the benefaction of the original founder and keeping his name alive. AH 1324 / AD 1906-07. The original location of the Hacı Hüseyin Ağa Fountain, restored in 1906, is at block 492, parcel 12, on Muratefendi Street.
