Editor's Note
Katip Şemseddin Mosque is an Ottoman-era mosque in the Demirtaş quarter of the Fatih district, in the Süleymaniye area; it is also known as Cankurtaran Mescidi. Although its exact construction date is unknown, it is held to have been built during the reign of Bayezid II by Kâtip Şemsüddin (or, according to some sources, Kâtip Kasım). Found in ruins, it was restored and reopened for worship in 1982. It is a masonry building with a single brick minaret with one balcony and a flat tiled roof.
