Editor's Note
In May 1975, Byzantine-period building remains were uncovered during the foundation excavation for the Beyazıt Akgün Hotel. The vaulted structure, found in remarkably good condition with interior walls coated in waterproof plaster, was surrounded by wall remains suggesting that it was once a substructure belonging to another building. During this unauthorized foundation excavation all the remains except the cistern were cleared away, and by decision of the conservation board the cistern was placed under protection. Its present condition is unknown.
