Editor's Note
The madrasa's name appears as Emre in some lists and as Emir in others. The use of the form "Emre Hoca" in a 1728 appointment record and in a plan dated 1324 (1908) leaves no doubt that the original was Emre and that it gradually shifted to Emir. While there was a small house on the madrasa plot in the 1970s, the land was allocated by the Directorate of Foundations to the Ebü'l-Vefa Foundation, and a wooden door and the collapsed parts of the wall are now boarded up with planks.
