Editor's Note
This lodge in the Fatih district, on Unkapanı Yeşil Tulumba Street, was built by Balmumcu el-Hac Ahmed Ağa son of Halil son of Receb, who endowed it as a foundation in AH 1208 / AD 1793. It was the first Shadhili lodge established in Istanbul. Shortly afterward, the Shadhili lodge in Alibeyköy was founded as well. The lodge grounds included a masjid, a dining hall, a kitchen, a cellar, a house, a water well, and a garden with both fruit-bearing and non-fruit-bearing trees.
