Editor's Note
The building takes its name from a square with a pool that once stood in front of it but no longer survives. It is thought to have been built during the construction of the Süleymaniye Mosque in 1557, or shortly afterward. A 1957 restoration opened its door facing Derinkuyu Street, and during repairs in the 1980s the domed space belonging to the bathhouse began to be used as a shop.
