The cistern, uncovered and partly destroyed during the foundation excavation of a building on Asya Street in 1983, was examined by experts from the Istanbul Archaeology Museum. It was found that the earth-filled cistern continued beneath the building on the neighboring plot, while the vaulted remnant on the construction plot was destroyed during the building work. Although it is stated that, by decision of the Board, the corner of the cistern was restored true to the original, no remnant of it survives today. 1 This cistern is thought to be the one mentioned in a document dated 1905.
