Editor's Note
Located at 38 Kadı Çeşme Street in the Yavuz Sultan Selim neighborhood, the mosque was built on an upper story by Defterdar Ahmed Paşa (d. AH 1022 / AD 1603). Ekrem Hakkı Ayverdi, however, infers from an endowment deed dated AH 887 / AD 1482 that the mosque was built by Hızır Bey Bin Abdullah. According to Evliya Çelebi, the mosque was built by a man descended from Cebe Ali Hazretleri who was Fatih Sultan Mehmed's chief baker, and he gained this title because he brought Bayezid the Saint six pastries every day that had never seen fire, as if baked by the sun itself.
