Editor's Note
The Seydi Bey Mosque was built in 1558 by Seydi Bey, who served as construction superintendent for bringing in and conveying the waters of the Süleymaniye. The Seydî Bey Mosque was located in the Fatih district, Molla Şeref neighborhood, on plots 9-10 of block 1985. It was built in AH 966/1558 by Seydî Bey bin Abdurrahman, the construction superintendent of the Süleymaniye waterway. According to the Hadika, the date in the mosque's Arabic inscription is Muharram 966/October 1558. In 999/1590 he had a large fountain built in front of the mosque and wrote its inscription himself. Seydî Bey's primary school for children was also located near the mosque.
