The Maarifi Sultan Mosque, located on Ankara Avenue in Kartal Kordonboyu, was built as a dervish lodge in 1818 by Sheikh Seyyid Mehmed Maarifi. It is known that Sultan Mahmud II, who ascended the throne in 1808, showed favor toward the lodge of Sheikh Mehmed Maarifi and occasionally provided assistance to it. Source: www.tarihi.ist
