Editor's Note
In Kartal, where an Armenian population began to form toward the end of the 16th century, there was a chapel. According to a manuscript, the church was built in 1776. In 1857, during the time of Patriarch Hagop III, it was rebuilt in masonry by Simon, Hagop, and Hacı Krikor Noradungyan. A small Armenian population still lives in this district. The church operates on important days, during the Great Lent, and in the summer season, especially during the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in August. The church underwent interior and exterior renovation in 1985.
