Editor's Note
The Başıbüyük Central Mosque was built as a church in 1426 and was rebuilt as a mosque by Süreyya Pasha. Its architect was Alexandre Vallaury. The marble inscription bearing a Quranic verse above its door reads the date AH 1321 (AD 1903).
