Editor's Note
On Büyükada, one of the Marmara archipelago islands where local Greeks settled densely after the conquest, Turks too began living there in the 19th century. To meet the resulting need, the mosque was built by Abdülhamid II in 1310 (1892-93) in the Maden neighborhood. Also known as the Servili or Büyükada Mosque, the place of worship serves today as the island's central mosque. Hamidiye Mosque - Encyclopaedia of Islam
