The mosque located on Fevziye Street in Yalı Neighborhood, known today as the Kazasker Feyzullah Efendi Mosque, was originally the Greek Orthodox Hagios Nikolas Church. It was left empty after the population exchange that followed the 1924 Treaty of Lausanne and was converted into a mosque in 1925. After its conversion, the building took the name Cumhuriyet Mosque. During World War II it served as a military depot for about seven years, and in 1947 it was reopened for worship.
