Editor's Note
The plan of today's masonry building, erected in place of Büyükada's wooden ferry pier opened in 1899, is the work of Mihran Azaryan. Begun in 1914 during the reign of Mehmed V (Reşad), the building was completed in 1915. The ground floor housed the ticket booths and the waiting hall, while the upper floor was used as a casino between 1918 and 1923 and as the Adalar District Center of the Republican People's Party between 1923 and 1950.
