Hungary played a major role in the modernization of the Republic of Turkey during the 1920s and 1930s, and the export of Ganz products to Turkey, which began systematically in that period, continued into the 1960s and even the 1970s. Although the breakup of the GANZ–MAVAG company into smaller firms in 1988 caused it to lose its market in Turkey, many Ganz factory products purchased long ago are still in operation in numerous parts of the country today.
