Editor's Note
Although the synagogue's original construction date is unknown, it is known to have been built during the 19th century. Damaged by the fires that frequently broke out in the area, the synagogue took its final form in the third quarter of the 19th century. The building was laid out on two floors: the upper floor was built as the synagogue, while the lower floor served as a yeshiva (a small religious school). Beside the entrance door on the south side of the building stood a water well. Abandoned in the early 1940s, the synagogue was later used for housing and storage.
