Source: Şişli Municipality. Source: institutional. It was opened in 1947, during Lütfi Kırdar's term as Mayor and Governor. The 5,000-seat hall hosted basketball, volleyball, wrestling and boxing matches as well as various exhibitions. In 1988 it was renamed the Lütfi Kırdar Sports Hall. In May 1992 it bade farewell to basketball fans and was converted into what is now, in name and form, the Lütfi Kırdar Congress Centre.
