Editor's Note
This cemetery, whose history goes back to the 18th century, is the resting place of figures such as the opera singer Suzan Lütfullah, Zehra Aylin (one of Atatürk's adopted daughters) and the writer Ahmet Hikmet Müftüoğlu. The gravestone inscriptions were transcribed on 14 April 2026 by Mr Furkan Yiğit Gürleyik. The gravestone of Beşir Ağa reads: He is the Living, the Everlasting.
