The architect of this house, built in 1943 as a three-storey, attached, plainly designed two-fronted residence, was Maruf Önal, who was then still a teaching assistant at the academy. Designed free of all traditional, historical and cultural references, the building is among the first modernist structures in Istanbul. The ground floor was conceived as a doctor's surgery, while the upper floors served as living space. Working on its construction were the heating engineer Koço, Alaaddin Usta, the master builder Hristo, the carpenter İbrahim Usta, and Ardaş Bezaz, the supplier of plumbing and tiles.
