Editor's Note
First opened in 1874 as the Hasköy Alliance Girls' School, the building was converted into a boys' school in 1888 and also housed a seminary. Its inscription reads, on the left, 'Alliance Israelite Ecole de Garçons 1888-1889', in the centre the symbol of Asklepios, god of healing, and on the right an Ottoman Turkish verse praising the era of Sultan Abdülhamid Han and the benevolence shown to the Jewish community in providing this fine elementary school. In 1963 the building was converted into the Society for Aid to the Elderly.
