Editor's Note
This church stands on the avenue in the southern part of the historic Armenian cemetery that once lay opposite Taşkışla in Pangaltı. Dedicated to Surp Krikor Lusavoriç, it was built by the decree of Sultan Abdülaziz dated 28 July 1865 to carry out the religious preparations needed to transfer the dead from the Pangaltı Surp Hagop cemetery to the Şişli Cemetery, after burials there were banned for health reasons. Following a lengthy court case in which the cemetery grounds and surroundings were expropriated by the Istanbul Municipality, it was demolished in 1939.
