Editor's Note
Belonging to the Beyoğlu Greek Orthodox Foundation, the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen is the second-oldest church in the area. It was built by the architect Konstantinos Karatzas over a five-year period between 1856 and 1861, and its opening took place on 9 April 1861. It is a domed, cross-plan basilica with two characteristic bell towers. The church is dedicated to the Byzantine Emperor Constantine the Great, founder of Constantinople, and his mother Helen, and its feast day is celebrated every year on 21 May.
