Editor's Note
Its founder was Abdurrahman Efendi, son of Ali Efendi of Amasya, one of the chief military judges of the reign of Süleyman the Magnificent. Abdurrahman Efendi is buried at his school near Emir Buharî. Abdurrahman Efendi, who had a mosque and a school in Yenibahçe and a mosque each in Edirne and Bursa, wrote two books. Built in 1554-55, the mosque is the work of Mimar Sinan. It is a fine example of Sinan's masonry-walled, timber-roofed mosques. The rectangular-plan walls were built in alternating courses, one row of küfeki stone to three rows of brick.
