Editor's Note
The original name and construction date of this structure, the only bridge within the city walls, are unknown. It was a small bridge built on the inner side of the walls, over the Bayrampaşa Creek (formerly called Lykos), which entered the city through the walls in the middle of Istanbul, turned south at Aksaray, and flowed into the Marmara Sea. Because there was a small mosque nearby endowed by Arpa Emini Mustafa Efendi, the road that crossed over it came to be known as Arpa Emini Köprüsü Street. In fact, the Hoca Attar Halil Ağa (Yenibahçe) Mosque stood right at the head of the bridge.
