Editor's Note
It was founded in 1820. At first it was called Levonyan, after Levon Bey, who supported the school. In 1864 a girls' school was opened in the same district under the direction of Vartuhi Hanım, and it became known as Vartuhyan. The two schools were merged in 1894 and given the name Levon-Vartuhyan. A kindergarten was added in 1898. Between 1943 and 1945, with the financial support of Mrs. Verjin Alacacıyan, the present building was constructed as a primary school. Great difficulties arose during construction and serious financial hardships afterwards. All these challenges were overcome thanks to the devoted and humanist principal of the time, Boğos Hacıyan.
