Editor's Note
Because the mosque, whose original patron and date are not precisely known, lay in ruins for many years, it is also known as the "Ruined Mosque" (Viran Cami). The Lalezar Mosque was commissioned by Hacı Nedime Kaya. Mehmet Efendi, sheikh of the florists, had its minbar (pulpit) installed. Of the ruined mosque, only its plot has survived to the present day. The mosque was rebuilt by Ahmet Efendi, author of a Quranic commentary. The Lalezar Mosque was rebuilt in reinforced concrete and opened for worship in 1998. [1]
