Editor's Note
Built at different dates and adjoining one another, the fountain and the open-air prayer area (namazgah) are located on Seyit Nizam Avenue, at the point where the Silivrikapi Cemetery and the Ayvalik Cemetery meet. The fountain was commissioned by Haci Bayram Efendi in AH 955 / AD 1548. Its inscription reads: "Fountain of Haci Bayram son of Haci, year 955." It is thought that the prayer area was incorporated into the road and that the qibla stone was later moved to its present location. According to its inscription, written in a single line in the thuluth script, the namazgah was built in AH 1193 / AD 1779-80.
