Editor's Note
Standing on what is today private land, this is a church built during the Byzantine period in honor of Saint Glykeria. Its name appears in a decree from the reign of the Byzantine emperor Manuel Komnenos in 1158. Gregorios Taronites had the church restored and reopened it for worship on 13 May 1142. Originally part of a monastery complex, the building has yielded a cistern, monks' cells, geometric floor mosaics, frescoes and tombs. Built on a closed Greek-cross plan, several sections of the structure still stand today.
